This post came about, thanks to Rose's and Isa's suggestions when they saw an Instagram post of mine. I decided to elaborate more on what happened in the hopes that it came help someone.

Disclaimer: This is not a sponsored post. However, should LBC, Amazon, or even Newton decide to contact me in the future for sponsorship deals, please, by all means!

In recent months, I'd been hearing from friends about the wonders of having items sent from abroad (i.e. from Amazon, in particular) to their very doorsteps through courier services such as Johnny Air Cargo, My Shopping Box, and LBC's Shipping Cart. I wondered about it, especially after going through a pretty horrendous experience last year.

What happened was I had a pair of Newton shoes (my running shoe brand of choice; the Newtons here are much more expensive compared to those in the US, plus we only carry a fraction of their models and designs) sent over from the United States late last year. Since it went through the usual shipping process — meaning it had to go through customs — I was shocked to find out that I had to pay PhP 3,500 in taxes upon claiming these shoes all the way in the Manila Central Post Office.

By the way, that also happened to be the price of the shoes. So I ended up paying double, which would've been the local price of a pair of Newton shoes.

This time, I wanted to see what would happen if I went through the courier route.

After going through the various options, I settled for LBC's Shipping Cart. I wanted to try Johnny Air initially, but it required a verification process and I didn't have an ID with me when I was about to sign up.

So this was what I did:

Step 1: I ended up applying for an address in LBC's Shipping Cart.

Step 2: After inputting the usual information, including payment and shipping information, I was assigned a US address.

You will see this on the left panel of your screen, if you're using a computer.

Step 3: After shopping online, I had my items sent to that US address. In this case, I bought a new pair of Newton shoes (I buy one pair every year, but I save them 'til I wear out an old pair) and a pair of Lock Laces from Amazon.

Step 4: I made sure that both items' delivery dates (to my US address) were close to each other.

Step 5: I monitored the delivery of the items, c/o Amazon's amazing tracking service.

Step 6: When each item got to my US address, LBC would email me instantly. However, when it came to the shoes, they opened the package and I was sent a photo. (Please keep this in mind should you decide to go through an LBC transaction.) Since it was just a pair of shoes and nothing seriously valuable, I didn't mind this semi-invasion of privacy. At least I appreciated the fact that they were verifying if it was, in fact, what I had ordered.

Photo of the shoes from LBC. You can locate photos of your delivered items in the "My Items" section of your page.

Step 7: When I was ready to have both items shipped from the US to Manila, I clicked on both items in the website and made sure both were sent to the same address in one package. I nearly danced with joy when I found out that the shipping fee for both items came out to less than PhP 850. A far cry from last year's PhP 3,500!

Step 8: I waited for updates via email from LBC. They'd email me in stages: a) when my payment came through; b) when they consolidated both items; c) when the items were in transit; and, d) when the package was finally delivered.

I came home last night to find an LBC-marked box sitting prettily in my room. Lo and behold, after around two and a half weeks, both items arrived, safe and sound, without my having to pay such hair-raising fees!

Needless to say, I'm a happy customer.

Just a breakdown so you have a better idea of how long it took to have the items delivered from Amazon, to LBC in California, to my house in Manila:

August 24: Both items were ordered from Amazon
August 27: The Newton shoes arrived at my LBC California address
August 31: The Lock Laces arrived at my LBC California address
September 1: Both items were consolidated and ready for shipping to the Philippines
September 2: Both items were in transit to the Philippines
September 10: Both items were delivered to my house in Manila

Would I go through this again? Definitely. It beats having to pick up packages sent from other countries in the Manila Central Post Office and paying practically the value of the item/s you ordered in taxes. Also, it put me at ease to receive frequent updates from LBC via email.

Would I recommend this to people? Sure, if you don't mind waiting a bit and having your items opened by the LBC people.

Would I not recommend this to people? Maybe not to those who are finicky about having their items inspected and opened up.

Have you tried LBC's Shipping Cart service? Or similar ones like Johnny Air Cargo, My Shipping Box, etc.? If so, which services are the best? Which has the cheapest shipping fees? Which delivers the fastest?

Or have you had an unpleasant experience related to any of the aforementioned?

If you haven't tried it yet, give it a go! It should meet your expectations or even exceed them. But if I may suggest — if you want to play it safe — try it out first with an item that won't break your heart if it goes missing or if something happens to it. (Not that I'm saying either will happen, but you never know, right?)

Happy shopping and happy weekend!

  2. Thanks for this Tins! Been wanting to order some crossfit shoes too, and was wondering about JohnnyAir and LBC. Question -- do you choose which box (like you can send multiple items to your box and have it shipped when everything's there na?

    1. Hey, you! You can choose to keep your items in your Shipping Cart if other orders are still coming in, then ship them out together in one box. That way, you'll only be charged with one shipping fee. :)

Or you can choose to ship them out to different addresses, or at different times. :) But of course there'll be different shipping charges if you do that.

  3. Hi Tina! Glad to know that there are other alternatives to JohnnyAir. Been a JA customer since I was living in manila, then moved to davao. But when I discovered myshoppingbox i became hooked, 6USD/lb shipping fee minimum, doesn't matter where you are in the philippines. I logged into LBC's shipping cart and discovered that shipping is at a whopping 20USD for vismin! Great for manila peeps, not too great for me. Still, a service that delivers to your doorstep is good. I can't understand why JohnnyAir can't step up its service and add home delivery to its default. D2D is always extra for them.

    1. Hello, Bambit! Thanks for dropping by. :)

Wow, I didn't realize there'd be a different charge for VisMin. Was that rate based on the weight of your items? Or was that the minimum rate for shipping to VisMin?

    2. I think JA delivers for an extra fee -- 500 bucks, last I heard.

  5. I'm glad that your experience was fairly good. I wish my latest one went as well as yours.

I hope you don't mind but I'm posting this here so that other consumers can see both sides of the LBC Shipping Cart experience.

The Shipping Cart--unfortunately--doesn't live up to its claim because it's neither fast nor reliable. Super sad with my latest experience (my sixth package in three months, mind you.) They always say they "attempt" delivery (three days in a row) but claim I'm always "out" or that the "house was closed"--making it my fault. First off, the delivery address isn't a house (they would've known that if they had actually gone there). The delivery address is open 24/7--even on holidays. It never closes. Second, I left an authorization letter, which means that--technically--it shouldn't matter if I'm there or not (but I was there, btw). Third, guard/receptionist said that there were actually no delivery attempts made. As a die-hard eBayer, finding out that LBC Shipping Cart lies and is generally unreliable is heartbreaking. LBC Shipping Cart has lost a fan. I hope they at least get that package to me before Chrissy *like they promised they would* (Remember that "ship on or before December 10 and get it before Christmas e-mail" they sent?). Everybody else, be warned. Don't use this service if you have a time frame you'd like to stick to.

    1. Sorry to hear that this happened to you. Have you called them or emailed them to give them feedback? I recently ordered items from Amazon on different days (after their Black Friday sale) and all items arrived at my LBC address on their scheduled delivery date, some even earlier. And they got to my doorstep exactly on the date that was indicated, which was Dec. 17. So all in all, from the time I ordered those items (Nov. 30 being the last date for the last item I ordered, 'til I received the package at home on Dec. 17), it just took a little over two weeks.

I hope that your feedback gets taken into consideration, that improvements will be made in the future to ensure the safety of the items you ordered, and that they'll be delivered on time.

And if anyone from LBC Shipping Cart reads this, please reply to this thread. Thank you!

    2. I have a similarly disappointing issue with LBC Shipping Cart.

I paid for shipment of a package last December 15. Until now, there is no update in my account about the package. They did not even bother posting a tracking number in my account. Emailed and called them multiple times but still have not received an acceptable answer about my missing package. My experience with LBC Shipping Cart has been significantly worse compared to JohnnyAir. I have never experienced this degree of disregard and lack of communication from JohnnyAir. So disappointed with my first time trying out LBC Shipping Cart.

    3. Hi, jsrivo! Sorry to hear of your unpleasant experience as well. Have you tried tweeting them? I hope you receive your package in the best condition ASAP. :(

    4. I am calling them daily and their only reply is that they do not know. I tried posting my concerns in their Facebook page but they blocked my post. This is truly unprofessional on their part.

    5. After asking three times for a refund, they keep on ignoring my request. What's worse, they are still in the process of "coordinating" about my missing shipment since December 15. And instead of processing my refund, they keep on insisting that they will just give me a coupon for my next transaction. What makes them think I am interested in another transaction when they don't even know what happened to my first one after three weeks of "coordination?"

I wonder where I can post my complaint for them to take actual action.

    6. Hi jsrivo, this might be too late but I thought that replying to this would also contribute to an answer for a similar question or regard in the future. Their Customare Care service, well i would not say super fast, is indeed responsive, not taken into consideration the last 2 e-mails I've sent them that was not even responded to. But really, I do think that their local LBC branches, like the ones here in the Philippines, do not even know what in the world LBCX is, as they would refer to in their FAQ/when paying for Shipping Cart fee/s in their outlets. The best way in inquiring would be doing it through their Contact Us feature that would be found under INFO in your LBC Shipping Cart account. Just simply input your name and e-mail address followed by your concern, they claim to respond within the day. This might not be very promising as their service could become quite unreliable when there are backlogs.

Anyway, I'm sorry, but I can't compare the two because I haven't tried Johnny Air. :) Really, LBC Shipping Cart has been the first delivery service I've used (aside from galleon.com.ph, which my dad prefers to use, even if it's more expensive). Hope someone else answers your question, though!

  7. Ive been experiencing a disappointing experience with LBC shipping cart. I purchased from amazon and it was delivered as promised to LBC's office in Hayward, CA. I received an email that my package was received by the shipping cart team and it was to be processed in 3 business days in which, I have not received any notices whatsover.

I called customer service a few days after. I was told my package was already displayed in their tool. Apparently, it has not been showing up whenever I log in. I gave them some slack.

Days passed and still no notice. Smells fishy. I sent multiple emails and called numerous times but the only reply that I would get was that my concern has been forwarded to the warehouse team for every email and every call that I got. This was very annoying. I was trying to keep my cool to give them that slack.

Days passed again, still no updates or replies. I was really disappointed. I called customer care and was told that if no update was given to me, they would declare my package missing. For me, that is very unfair. LBC is a courier service and the least that they can do is to organize their work and not lose a package which is their bread and butter. Nobody has reached out to me nor any updates were given to me. If i had not badgered them with calls and emails, I would probably never hear about my package ever again. I was even told that if no updates were given, they would deem my item declared missing...WTF!!

Somehow, I reveal to you a testament on how lousy and backward their service is. We work hard for our money. No company has the right to do this to consumers especially in LBC's line of service. They prove to be a very shitty and inefficient company. I sincerely hope no other filipino would fall victim to their ways. An advice, look elsewhere, LBC will only provide disappointment.

I'm truly sorry to hear that you had a disappointing experience with them. Unfortunately, I'm not in any position to forward this comment to them. I do hope, however, that someone from LBC comes across this post and reads through the comments so they can help you and others with similar experiences. :(

  8. Hi there, I hope you had this blog followed so replies could easily reach you. Anyway, moving on. I experienced a similar situation with you. But if I may have the right to ask, could I know when was your item received in their LBC Warehouse in the US? To give you reference, my first item was sent on April 11 and last item was April 14. Fortunately, both of them are in my account now and I've already processed them so it would get consolidated the next business day. Day that it appeared was just this morning. And to tell you honestly, I seem to see my items only after their business hours end. If you had your item sent to LBC Warehouse at a later date than mine, please do wait until next week. Mine took rougly 2 weeks! I would recommend we use a friendly tone and a non-repititive manner of reaching them as this would help us in friendlier response by their Customer Care team. Kind regards.

To answer your questions, yes, it takes a day usually to reflect when the item/s reach their warehouse, especially given the timezone difference. I did have another transaction after this one and had to follow up regarding the status of my items. The customer service team did respond fairly quickly, though (a day after I emailed).

I'm sorry to hear that they're inconsistent in terms of their quality of service. I guess (?) I've been one of the more fortunate ones in terms of having a positive experience. I really hope that they standardize their delivery and service protocol.

Thanks for dropping by! Hope all's well on your end.

  10. So disappointed with Shipping Cart. They started out great but they've been having problems these past few months. Check their FB and Instagram, may mga nawawalan ng items and madaming delay. My first experience with them is okay but my second one is really disappointing. 3 weeks na and di pa rin in-transit yung shipment ko. First week pa lang worried na ko so I kept on emailing their customer service, they said they will follow-up and even gave me a tracking number. Second week, nag follow-up ako uli they said may backlogs daw and they're experiencing large volume of shipments. 3 weeks na wala pa ring update even customer service is not replying to me na.

    1. Hi, there. Sorry to hear that you've had a disappointing experience lately. Unfortunately, I can't do anything about it as I'm not affiliated with LBC or Shipping Cart; I'm just a blogger who happened to have a good experience and wrote about it.

I hope, though, that they find your comment and reply to it ASAP. Have a good day!

We're working on resolving our backlogs and are currently implementing a new warehouse system to address the recent issues that Shipping Cart users have been experiencing. Trust that our customer care team will reply to you once they have a definite update.
