Life in the Fast Lane

Today marks my 20-somethingth birthday and, thankfully, I don't feel a day older than I was yesterday.

I remember how I used to loathe the dawning of February 24th in years past. Since I was a shy little girl who evolved into a content-to-be-backstage kind of teenager, I never liked making a big deal out of my birthday celebrations. I declared as much as I could that I hated surprises (I remember the surprise party thrown for me on my 16th birthday; I nearly passed out from sheer shock) and I was happy just to eat out at the restaurants near my house. Nothing fancy for this girl, please.

But as I grew older and attended countless birthday celebrations of family members and friends, I realized that birthdays weren't so much about me and my inhibitions anymore; they were just as much about the people who've graced my life. In my early 20s, oddly, that's when I started to really make birthday plans with my different circles of friends. I've made those celebrations my way of saying thank you for how they've touched my life.

So here's to another chapter in my life. I definitely don't know what this year will bring, but I'm sure it'll turn out to be amazing. I have God in my life, I have such a wonderful family, and truly supportive friends. I'm going to make this year count, and I'm going to live it to the full.

Happy birthday, self! You may be getting older, but it's good to know that you're still 12 years old mentally. I hope you don't grow jaded and that you keep the kid within you alive and kicking.

Thank you again, Lord, for giving me another year to enjoy life with You and for You!
